Dear oib class,
This is the week we wrap up Oedipus! All of our snickering will be coming to an end soon and we'll be asking ourselves whether pulling a Jocasta (to quote Chloe) is the right thing to do or not!
We'll begin tomorrow by slowing down a little and looking at the odes.
Then, for Tuesday, I'd like you to think about the following questions:
1. What is the moment of ANAGNORISIS and why didn't happen before?
2. Why does so much of the final action/catastrophe happen offstage? Do you agree with that decision?
3. Are we satisfied? Does Oedipus, as Adrien says, earn our respect points?
Hi!
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the photo, my thoughts of what Oedipus looked like completely changed. I didn't imagine it to look like this... Also Ismene and Antigone look really young.
And also Oedipus' eyes don't seem as gory as the description that we have read.
O.k. that's it...:)
I agree Rose :) I expected them to be older looking. I think the fact that his hands are on their heads, as if to bless them, he is saying the line "Pray you will always lead measured lives, Better lives than lived by your own father". And another question I would like to raise is what's up with his cape and bracelets?? that oedipus has got an interesting style going on...
